Gaurav Bhatia is a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of India. In 2017, the Bhartiya Janata Party named him their National Spokesperson. On March 20, 2024, Gaurav got into a heated argument with lawyers at the Gautam Buddha Nagar Court when he showed up to plead his case during a strike. The incident has gained a lot of attention on social media as it was captured and shared online.

Gaurav Bhatia was born on February 16, 1977, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. His father, Virendra Bhatia, is a former member of the Samajwadi Party, and his mother is Saroj Bhatia. He has a sister. Gaurav completed his bachelor's degree at Bridgeport University and went on to study law at La Martiniere College in Lucknow. He is married to Pratima Bhatia. He is 47 years old.

He started his political career from Samajwadi Party


In 2012, Gaurav Bhatia was appointed as an additional advocate general (AGG) for the Akhilesh Yadav government, but his position was taken away by the Uttar Pradesh government in 2016. During that time, he also held roles as the National Spokesperson for the Samajwadi Party and the National President of the Samajwadi Party’s Legal Wing.  His height is 5 feet 9 inches.

From 2015 to 2017, he served as the Secretary of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court of India. On February 5, 2017, he decided to leave the Samajwadi Party and became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party on April 2, 2017. In an interview, he explained that one of the main reasons for his departure was the lack of protection for the legal community in Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of the Samajwadi Party.

Controversy related to him


In January 2021, a video of Gaurav Bhatia surfaced online where he accused the RSS and BJP of inciting communal riots in India. Following the video going viral, he faced backlash and trolling on different social media channels.

On July 13, 2022, there was a major news story involving a man accusing former Indian vice-president Hamid Ansari of inviting a Pakistani delegate to India who leaked confidential information to Pakistan's spy agency ISI. This incident occurred during the UPA government's tenure in India and caused quite a stir in the media.

On March 20, 2024, advocates in Gautam Buddha Nagar district decided to boycott judicial work. Supreme Court advocate Gaurav Bhatia showed up at the court to present a case. The protesting advocates were upset and questioned his presence during the strike. After a brief disagreement, Gaurav Bhatia eventually left the premises. Bar Association Secretary Dhirendra Bhati mentioned that Gaurav Bhatia later expressed his support for the strike and left accordingly.
