Prajwal Revanna, 33 years old is the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and state general secretary of Janata Dal (Secular) is currently facing a scandal involving sex tapes in Karnataka. It has been reported that numerous pen drives containing videos of his alleged sexual assault have been circulating in Hassan, the Lok Sabha constituency where he was running as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and JD(S).

Prajwal Revanna Lok Sabha MP controversy

Prajwal Revanna has claimed that the viral videos were manipulated and has taken legal action by filing a complaint. Despite this, it has been reported that he has departed the country. HD Revanna, Prajwal's father and the eldest son of Deve Gowda, served as a minister in his younger brother H D Kumaraswamy's cabinet during the Congress-JD (S) alliance government in 2018-19.

His party is in defense mode


His uncle and former chief minister from JD(S) said "It is not related to me. SIT probe has been ordered, officials have been put to work. If he has gone to a foreign country, getting him back is their responsibility. What should I say, if I'm asked. They (SIT) will get him, don't worry,". Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai believes that the case may have been pre-planned.

S Prakash, the chief spokesperson of BJP's state unit, clarified that the party is not involved in the videos or the SIT probe regarding the alleged sex scandal with Prajwal Revanna. He stated that they have no comments to make on the matter.

The Congress is saying that the BJP knew about the controversial videos back in December before forming an alliance with the JD (S). BJP MLA Pritam Gowda and senior party leader Devaraje Gowda of Hassan stated that they informed state party president B Y Vijayendra about the videos, yet the party still went ahead with the alliance.

Prajwal Revanna is a mechanical engineer graduate


Prajwal graduated as a mechanical engineer from Bangalore Institute of Technology in 2014. Prajwal was studying an MTech in Australia before dropping out to help his family with the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He vigorously campaigned for his father in Holenarsipura during the elections.

He took on the role of JD(S) state general secretary in November 2019. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he achieved victory over BJP's A Manju by a significant margin of over 1.4 lakh votes in Hassan. Prajwal was the only JD(S) MP in Karnataka to be renominated from the Hassan Lok Sabha seat. In the upcoming polls on April 26, 2024, he will be representing the BJP-JD(S) alliance as their candidate in Hassan.

Prajwal Revanna, Lok Sabha MP involved in obscene videos controversy

Based on information provided in Prajwal Revanna's affidavit, he disclosed that he possesses assets valued at ₹40 crore in 2024. The affidavit also states that he does not possess a car or any residential building but does own a pistol worth ₹1.04 lakh and rifle worth ₹2.68 lakh. He is not married as of yet. Prajwal faced allegations of submitting an inaccurate and false affidavit during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, leading to the Karnataka High Court issuing summons against him in 2019.

His mother, Bhavani Revanna, also has ties to the political world through her family in KR Nagar. His brother, Suraj Revanna, is both a politician and a physician. Prajwal himself has recently started his own political journey by serving as a Member of Karnataka Legislative Council from Hassan district.

Sexual controversy involving him


According to the Karnataka police, a pen drive containing 2,976 videos was shared among individuals in Hassan. The videos varied in length, with some only lasting a few seconds and others spanning a few minutes. Upon initial examination, it was discovered that the majority of the videos were recorded using a mobile phone in a storeroom located at residences in Bengaluru and Hassan post-2019.

A woman who works at his home in Hassan filed made a complaint accusing him and his father, JD (S) MLA H D Revanna from Holenarasipur, of sexually abusing her multiple times between 2019 and 2022. The complainant claimed that Revanna, her employer, summoned her to his house during her fourth month of employment in 2019.

She alleged that when Revanna's wife was not present, he called female employees to the storeroom where he would touch them while giving them fruits. The complainant also stated that Revanna would remove saree pins and sexually assault women. In response to the complaint, the police registered a case against Revanna under sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (outraging modesty of a woman).
