Prajakta finished her schooling at Capt. Shivrampant Damle Prashala in Pune and then went on to study at Lalit Kala Kendra for her BA/MA from Pune University. Her father has worked as a CID officer in Maharashtra and her mother's name is Shweta Mali. She has a younger brother named Prasad Mali.
Prajakta received training in Bharatnatyam dance during her ninth and eleventh grade through Arangetram classes and Dance Visharad training. Parimal Phadke and Swati Tai Datar were her instructors for the classical dance. Following her formal education, she was awarded a PhD scholarship by the Ministry of Culture to further study Bharatnatyam.

When Prajakta was 13 years old, she achieved success by winning several dance reality shows like Kuch Kar Dikhana Hai and Kya Masti Kya Dhoom. She also made it to the finals of Ekapeksha Ek Apsara Aali on Zee Marathi in 2013. Her talent and dedication to dance helped her stand out in these competitions. She is 35 years old. She appears to be around 5 feet 5 inches tall.
Prajakta has already made appearances on television as a contender in a few reality shows. She also acted in the 2007 film "Gandhi, My Father" and in the 2008 Marathi film Tandala. She has been the host of Good Morning Maharashtra. Then, in 2011, she appeared in the Marathi show Suvasini. Her outstanding performance on the show led to a role in the Marathi film Kho-Kho, which was released in 2013. She also participated in the 2013 Ek Peksha Ek - Apsara Ali dance reality show.
In 2013, she began appearing as the lead actress in the Julun Yeti Reshimgathi show, opposite Lalit Prabhakar. The audience took to Prajakta's portrayal of Meghna so much that people started calling her by that name.
She portrayed Nupur in the 2017 film Naktichya Lagnala Yaycha Ha! Then, Mali hosted the comedy program Maharashtrachi Hasya Jatra from 2018 to 2020. In 2018, she made a special appearance in Ani… Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar. She was cast in the comedy Party the same year. In 2019, she played the lead role in the movie Dokyala Shot, opposite Suvrat Joshi. From 2021 to 2023 she hosted Indian Idol Marathi show.

Prajakta Malisalary charges between 6-12 Lakhs and her overall net worth is around 8 crores. Other than her acting career, she earns money from various other business deals. She has appeared on the cover of numerous magazines and has been a brand ambassador for several popular brands.
She has now ventured into entrepreneurship by launching her own jewellery brand called PrajaktaRaj. Her launch event in Mumbai was attended by notable figures such as MNS chief Raj and actor Sonu Sood.
