She is also known for her advisory roles with Curriculum Associates, and her future endowed chair position at the University of Michigan starting in the fall of 2022. Gabby Thomas has a twin brother named Andrew who is a graphic designer in Idaho, along with three other siblings. She pursued a degree in the sciences due to her passion for neurobiology, inspired by her brothers who have ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome. Her interest in neurobiology was sparked by her twin brother's experience with neurofeedback therapy and her other younger brother's condition.

This was evident in her impressive showing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where she clinched bronze in the 200m and silver in the 4x100m relay.
