The principal requested everyone to respect Ovet parents and family privacy
Dr. Lisa Gruman, the principal, made an announcement during third hour on Friday that sophomore Ovet Gomez Regalado had passed away. Teachers were then instructed to share a sensitive email with students regarding the news. Just a few days prior, Dr. Gruman had sent out another email to staff about a football player who required emergency medical attention and was currently hospitalized receiving treatment.
In her email to parents, Gruman raised the importance of not spreading rumors and respecting the family's privacy during their time of grief. She acknowledged that dealing with the death of a young person is a challenging experience and encouraged everyone to process their feelings and emotions in a healthy way.
His cause of death is not known
The community at Northwest High School is mourning the loss of Gomez Regalado, the fourth student to pass away in just 14 months. Shawnee Mission School District officials were offering their support, acknowledging that there are many questions that cannot be answered but emphasizing the importance of supporting each other during this difficult time. Ovet was described as a warm and wonderful student who touched the hearts of many in the community.
